The magic with the hand warmer is in the metal disc you see inside it. All you do is click the disc back and forth a few times and you'll see the clearish gel inside become opaque. As the opaqueness spreads, so does the heat! It's a crazy chemical reaction which we like to call AWESOME! Seriously, the pretty gel is a supersaturated solution. Bending the disc starts an exothermic crystallization of the gel (i.e. it goes opaque and gets hot). And when it loses its warmth, all you have to do is wrap it in a towel and throw it into boiling water for about 15 minutes and the Hand Warmer resets itself. Each pad contains a a solution of Sodium Acetate (form of salt) and a stainless steel disc in a sealed plastic bag. Flexing the metal disc in the bag causes a single molecule of the solution to crystallize which in turn causes the entire solution to solidify. This change causes the heat pad to heat up to 130 degrees F / 54 C. The pad will stay warm for about 30 mins then gradually cool down. The warmers can be used over an over again by recharging them. For further details check out the video. How to Recharge? Place the hand warmers on a cloth in a pot of boiling water for about 5 minutes or until all the crystals have dissolved. (By placing the warmer on a cloth this will prevent the plastic bag from coming in contact with the bottom of the pot.)
